CAKE DECORATING!

I have always been impressed with people who make buttercream icing and decorate a cake! My first birthday cake attempts have been failures. I have learned a lot of important steps that being in a hurry you cannot skip! I found a Wilton cake section in WM and oh dream of all of it! I bought a few tips and disposable icing bags. I am loving it and having such fun! I have a list of more items I want! Plus, I have been watching videos on youtube. So here are the two I have made. I like simple cake. Not too much. I know, the one cake has too much. I was trying different borders and flowers. Roses still give me a hard time!

The cake! Oh my. I have never found a from scratch white or chocolate cake that I just love! I did not have any cake mixes so I thought I would use an allrecipe cake. I was not impressed with the reviews. Then I thought I would try betty crocker and see if they have any online. Oh this is a keeper. Rich, moist but not too moist, wonderful cake!

Buttercream:

1/2c butter
1/2c shortening
1TBL vanilla
4c Conf Sugar
1-2TBL milk

Mix butter, shortening and vanilla. Slowly add the conf sugar until thick. Add milk.

Note: I do not add the milk. It needs to be thick for piping.
for chocolate: add 1/2c cocoa

Wow pretty!!!

But what to do if you don't want to use shortening?

I have a fabulous cake recipe that is very few ingredients and moist and perfect. Without tons of extra fat.
